NMCI Open Day
On Thursday, 7th November, a group of our students had the fantastic opportunity to visit the National Maritime College of Ireland (NMCI) for their annual Open Day. The visit offered an exciting look into Ireland's maritime industry and showcased the many career paths available in this vital sector.
Students began the day with an introduction to the NMCI's state-of-the-art facilities, including impressive simulators that replicate real-life maritime scenarios. These simulators provided hands-on experiences in navigation, safety, and emergency response, allowing students to feel what it’s like to manage a vessel on open waters.
Throughout the day, students also had the chance to attend informational talks led by NMCI staff and industry experts. These sessions provided valuable insights into the roles of maritime professionals, from captains and engineers to maritime logistics specialists. The college staff shared real-life stories from their own careers and discussed the skills required to succeed in the maritime field, sparking curiosity among our students about potential future careers.
One of the highlights was the interactive safety training, where students learned about the essential equipment used for search and rescue. They also saw a demonstration of life-saving techniques used at sea, emphasizing the importance of safety and teamwork in maritime professions.
Overall, the visit to NMCI was an informative and eye-opening experience for our students, broadening their understanding of Ireland’s maritime heritage and the opportunities in the maritime industry. We’re grateful to the NMCI for hosting us and inspiring the next generation of maritime professionals.
