Junk Kouture Update
Junk Kouture is a national contest which encourages young designers to create striking couture designs and impressive works of wearable art from everyday junk that would normally find its way into the bin. This year Kinsale Community School has 9 teams of Transition Year students entering the competition. A variety of materials have been used to create these sculptural garments from drink cans, gardening equipment, old curtains, Styrofoam, ballet shoes, receipts and sweet wrappers. The teams have spent countless hours sewing, weaving and assembling their pieces in skilful ways, resulting in striking designs. Wishing all of the teams the very best of luck in qualifying. The teams are as follows:
· Cokature by Lauren Balaur, Lydia O’Sullivan, Alannah Fitzpatrick and Emma Jones.
· Mer de Métaux by Oscar Mueller, Róisin O'Riordan and Sandra Samoilenko.
· Shop Till You Drop by Mia Barrett, Karla Bertoletti and Claire Nolan.
· Ní Mar a Shíltear a Bhítear by Kate Barr, Matthew Murphy and Abbie Mai Hayward.
