TY School Show: Oliver with a Twist
Our Transition Year students wowed audiences night after night with their unforgettable production of Oliver with a Twist, which ran from the 23rd to the 29th of March in the brand new Shane Fitzsimons Riverside Theatre. Under the direction of Mr. Tony Cierans and the expert production of Ms. Niamh Hay, with choreography by Ms. Janet Forrest, this creative reimagining of the classic tale was a roaring success.
In this fresh take, Oliver with a Twist told the story of twins Oliver and Annie, who are brought to an orphanage after the death of their mother. Raised under the harsh rule of Mr. Bumble and Ms. Hannigan, the siblings grow up unaware that they are related. After Oliver is sold to a cruel undertaker, he escapes to London where he is taken in by Fagin and his gang of teenage thieves. A failed pickpocketing attempt lands him in front of the magistrate, but he soon finds a glimmer of hope in the kindness of Mr. Brownlow. Just as a new life seems possible, the villainous Bill Sikes kidnaps Oliver and drags him back to the den. A failed robbery and a dramatic twist of fate lead to a joyful reunion with his sister—and a happily ever after.
The show played to sold-out audiences each night, with students delivering outstanding performances filled with heart, humour, and energy. The production was a true celebration of teamwork, talent, and TY spirit. Most importantly, the cast and crew created memories that will last a lifetime.
A huge well done to all involved!
